Cindy Sheehan at Face Value

Cindy Sheehan has a fundamentally sound point. The extreme right wing is slinging mud at her with both hands to cover over that point, and the left is piggy-backing their pet peeves onto her vigil, and as a result, her point is being lost in the fray. The woman is most likely sincere in asking the simple question: “What is the 'Great Cause' that my son died for?”

Everyone assumes that she is merely out to attack and embarrass the Bush regime just by asking the question, but that ‘ain’t necessarily so’. I think she actually wants to hear it, to get the truth out into the open. I take her at face value.

Obviously, OBVIOUSLY, the war was not about WMDs, terrorism, or any of the other folderol marketing hotshots sold the war to the American people with. The war is about establishing military bases on Iraqi soil. That and that alone defines and determines the success or failure of the campaign.

Our biggest military presence has long been in Saudi Arabia, but our stay there is about up because the Saudi regime could topple in an fundamentalist revolution at any time. We need a place to stand in the area so that we can keep safe our oil supply and protect our allies in the region.

It’s that simple. Cindy Sheehan must know it, and she just wants the man at the top to say that’s the great cause we are pursuing.

There is merit in protecting America’s economic interests. Of course, the American people would never have openly sanctioned a war for economic purposes, but the they have been in on the subterfuge all along. They just pretended to believe the cock-&-bull about WMDs because it gave them moral and religious cover to go along with a war for oil and empire.

And these people accuse Cindy Sheehan of insincerity!
