Get offa My Cloud |

Never
for a moment did I ever seek to, or want to restrict someone's freely
practicing their religion. Now however, it seems that religious zealots
want to run my life according to their plan. They want to live by faith
and anti-intellectualism, and they want to force me to do the same.
I
wouldn't think of walking into their church and arguing against their
doctrine, so why do they think they have any need or right to preach
creationism in public schools? Their
wealthy churches don't pay taxes, but want a hand in government. They even
want -and get- my tax money to redistribute to whomever they choose,
without oversight. The
National Republican Party is taking the same path as the Texas Republican
Party, pandering to extremist zealots. It can't be a majority party on its
own, so it has cynically formed a coalition with them. Bush bribes
them with faith-based vigorish, and presidential candidate Bill Frist
showed that he's ready to turn the government into the
American Taliban just woo them. The Republicans are making the same bargain with religious extremists that the Saudi's made with the Wahabi. The bargain is this: (corporate) aristocracy will continue to live its rarefied existence, while the zealots control the everyday lives of the common people.
Despite talking a good line about seeding democracy overseas, we're actively converting to a theocracy here. |
